Where does the day go? The baby wakes you up in the morning, you feed everyone and hopefully yourself breakfast, and the next thing you know, it’s dark. What just happened?! Tomorrow, approach the day thinking about four tiny moments you’re going to make your own – just for you. Don’t stress about finding extra time … instead, think of it as claiming a chunk of something you have to do anyway, and making those minutes personally satisfying. Where to look? Read on.
Car as concert hall:
Of course you probably already listen to music or talk radio in the car. But do you make it count? Get nostalgic and break out bands you loved in high school and sing along as loudly as you want on one of the many errands you have to run. Books on tape are addictive. Getting into a podcast can make all the time you have to spend in the car fly by. Or timing trips to when your favorite radio shows are on makes driving more of a treat than a chore.
Shower as spa:
When you have a baby it’s hard to find time to even take a shower some days – trust us, we’ve been there. But when you finally get around to it, a wee bit of advance planning enhances every precious second under that soothing hot water. Pick out a pretty towel that makes you smile and declare it off limits to everyone else. Pick up a bar of soap or body wash in a happy, invigorating scent. Brush your teeth in the shower and use that extra minute afterwards to massage lotion into your legs and arms. Ahhh.
Cleaning up and meditating:
Make a point of clearing your mind with a few deep breaths when it’s time to make beds, pick up toys, or straighten up. There are many free apps to download that guide you in relaxing thoughts and meditation, or simply visualize the ocean, your last vacation, or another happy place.
Cooking and counting:
The repetitive motions of prepping meals are well suited to help your mind make lists. Sure, they could be to-do lists, but why not give yourself a break and instead make mental lists of places you dream of visiting, people you love, or blessings you already have.
